I have already done a post about my take on a message from my pastor, but here's another one I've had on my heart for a long time.
Our identity.
If we could describe ourselves in just one word, what would it be?
Wife?
Mother?
Fit?
Beautiful?
Talented?
Organized?
None of these things are wrong, of course, but if they take the place of God, then they are out of balance. Our identity is that we are a Christian. A child of God.
I know a lot of people who have amazing gifts and abilities. I know many people who excel in music, sports, or writing. But even though they are known for what they can do, they are known the best for who they are.
Are you a Christian? Have you put your faith in Him for salvation? Then your identity is fixed on Him, because He never changes. What a relief to realize that the world can't force any standards on me- I'm already complete in Him.
I can be a bit of a worrier. I worry about getting some serious disease that would change me and make me unable to do my "normal" activities. But if my identity is in Christ, I don't need to fear the unknown. Sick or well, fit or inactive, beautiful or homely, I have the same value in God's eyes.
Are YOU joyfully claiming your identity today?
